Bishop Barnes to hold mass in Rancho Cucamonga supporting immigrants

Note:  Perhaps we can get the Catholic Church to come out in support of stopping deportations and expanding DACA.

Bishop Gerald Barnes Sunday will lead the Diocese of San Bernardino’s eighth annual Mass to celebrate the contributions of immigrants to the Catholic Church and the nation.

The event, in Rancho Cucamonga, will highlight the cultural traditions and forms of worship of a number of ethnic groups.  The Mass begins at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 12704 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga

The Mass also will underline the church’s combating of human trafficking and its position supporting immigration reform with a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants.

“Children, (the) undocumented, refugees and victims of human trafficking often find themselves existing in a kind of figurative darkness where their options remain limited,” Hilda Cruz, coordinator of the diocese’s Justice for Immigrants Campaign, said in a news release.

The event marks the end of the observance of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Migration Week.
