Vigil in Murrieta on Wednesday

In a spirit of peace, we invite you to join us in a National Day of Action to call for peace, respect, and compassion for unaccompanied minors. Our Inland Empire action will be a vigil held in Murrieta.

We cannot allow the intolerant actions of a few be the only message being sent to the children,… to the immigrant community, and to the world.

We further call upon our elected officials, beginning with President Obama, to cease all plans to repeal federal laws protecting unaccompanied minor refugees. The President must also halt plans to fast track deportations for Central Americans. We have seen the failure of similar “fast-track” programs like Operation Streamline in Arizona to justly adjudicate immigration cases. We ask that the President respect the migrants’ right to due process that the Constitution and statute guarantee.

On Wednesday:  6 – 9 PM    Place: to be Announced

Please help us make this a large and peaceful event. Reach out to your communities and mobilize them. If you are Catholic and want to get your parish involved, talk to your priest about Bishop Barnes’ statement (http://www.sbdiocese.org/NewsMedia/BishopStatements/2014_0703_murrieta.pdf) and what your community can do to help.

If you come from another faith tradition, talk to your congregation and get them involved.

If you are part of a student group, a union, a soccer team, or any other organization, bring them on Wednesday.

We are also encouraging people who have the means to bring the following items to donate to the temporary shelters:

Toiletries, water, food, clothing, medicine, towels, sleeping bags, and blankets. Food should be non-perishables, medicine over the counter stuff like aspirin, and the towels etc should be clean and usable.
