“Hi, I’m [YOUR NAME], calling from [YOUR CITY], California. I’m calling to ask (Name of Representative) to stay strong and ensure protections for these children who are fleeing violence and persecution. I urge her to oppose deportations of refugees.”

Background

Congress is considering an emergency funding bill – with negative and positive components – to address the child refugees who are fleeing violence in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.

Unfortunately, some legislators in Washington are using this moment to push proposals to rapidly deport children who are victims of trafficking, sexual assault, or persecution back to these dangerous situations. These troubling proposals come weeks after the President himself indicated he wanted to speed up the deportation of child refugees.

In 2008, Congress passed the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) with near unanimous support in 2008. This law makes sure these vulnerable children have the right to basic due process and can have a judge fully review their cases.

Please call these representatives and urge them to oppose any proposal that would roll back critical due process protections for the children fleeing violence in Central America.
