Mexicana Actress Elpidia Carrillo Part of Cesar Chavez Park Celebration

Elpidia Carrillo a Mexicana actress and activist who has appeared in various acclaimed Latin-American/U. S. films and television shows will be part of the presentations at the community pot-luck and festivity in commemoration of Cesar Chavez Park on Saturday, November 15th from 12 noon – 3 PM at Cesar Chavez park (2720 Barjud Ave. in Pomona).

The celebration will include food, music by Son Real, Ballet Folklorico, tour and explanation of murals at the park, and plans for the… future. The special appearance of Actress and Activist Elpidia Carillo will coincide with a presentation on the contemporary meaning of the Mexican Revolution and what is happening there today.

For months now, a group (that has included city councilperson John Nolte, community parents, students, PUSD, Cal Poly MASA, MECHA and Cesar Chavez Center, and members of the Cesar Chavez Pilgrimage Committee and the Latino/Latina Roundtable) have been meeting to beautify the park, hold tutoring/mentoring sessions with students from the area, and develop plans for restoring the murals and develop future plans for the park. Some community parents proposed that the celebration should coincide with a presentation on the meaning of the Mexican Revolution which is celebrated in Mexico on November 20th. In addition to this presentation, the gathering will celebrate the work that has already been done and advance plans for future activities at the park.

You are asked to bring food of your choice to share as part of the pot-luck and highly suggest dressing in traditional Mexican clothing.
