Giving Thanks to our supporters!

UFCW Local 1428 extends a heartfelt thank you to our many supporters who turned out in solidarity with our El Super members – who struck the company over Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs) last Wednesday  protesting the Company’s failure to process grievances and bargain in good faith, including denying the Union key information. The one-day El Super ULP strike coincided with one of the busiest shopping days of the year, and was enthusiastically supported by UFCW members at all seven unionized stores.

As you know, El Super workers have been courageously fighting to win respect and a fair contract from their multibillion dollar, transnational employer for more than two years. El Super has dug in its heels and remains committed to delaying and denying justice to their largely immigrant workforce. In so doing, it threatens to undermine grocery industry labor standards that have taken decades to establish.

With your continued support, this will NOT happen on our watch. Our members are strong and united, and they continue to receive unprecedented support from the local and international labor communities. Last month, UFCW led an international coalition of labor groups who filed complaints with both the U.S. Office of Trade and Labor Agreements and the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, alleging El Super and its Mexico-based parent company is violating the North American Free Trade Agreement’s side deal on labor. The investigation is ongoing.

We urge all of you to continue to honor the El Super consumer boycott and the spread the word among your friends and family. We will continue to update you on the status of the El Super campaign, including future mobilizations in protest of this irresponsible, low-road operator in our communities.

Thank You,

Mark Ramos, President

Sylvia Carranza, Community Organizer
