Latina/o Roundtable Meeting this Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 PM

The next meeting of the Latino and Latina Roundtable will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 1 PM in the Pitzer College Broad Center Room 208 (1050 North Mills Avenue in Claremont).  One of the main items of the agenda will be to nominate members, from our membership, for seven director positions on the board of directors.  In addition to the nomination process, we will also discuss the status of our new office, status of selecting a director for the organization, the I. D. Equality petition, College for all Coalition, and upcoming LRT activities (Dia de los Muertos at the dA Center on November 5).

Invitation to Latin@ Roundtable Meeting on Saturday, June 17th

This is your invitation to the Latino and Latina Roundtable membership meeting on Saturday, June 17 at 1 PM at the Pitzer College Broad Center (1050 N. Your Invitation to the Latino/a Roundtable Cesar Chavez Fundraiser Breakfast

I am writing to request your support for our 13th Annual Cesar Chavez Breakfast that will take place on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 8 A. M. to 10 A. M. (with registration between 7 and 8 AM) at the Conference Center at the Fairplex, California Ballroom (601 W McKinley Ave., Gate 3) in Pomona. The Latino and Latina Roundtable, as you know, continues to move forward with the commitment and dedication of dozens of volunteers and the resources that are raised from this yearly fundraiser.  In keeping with our grass-roots base, we continue to keep the cost at a minimum to ensure that the tradition is in keeping with the celebration of the life of Cesar Chavez and the many leaders, from all backgrounds, who have historically given of their lives to ensure a more equal and just society. In keeping with the tradition of honoring leaders in our region who have exemplified the principles and values of Cesar Chavez, the Roundtable this year is honoring:  Manuel Castillejos, Professor, Mt. San Antonio College, Eloise Gomez Reyes, California Assembly Member, Dist. 47, Paul Knoph, Service Learning Coordinator, PUSD and Kiki Hafia, Owner of Mercado La Cachanilla.  In addition, scholarships will be presented to students from the region  who exemplify the work of Cesar Chavez through their community engagement in social justice issues. Your Invitation to Retreat of Latino and Latina Roundtable this Saturday

To Latino and Latina Roundtable Members and Prospective Members:

 This is your invitation to our annual Latino and Latina Roundtable retreat that will take place this  Saturday, February 11th (beginning with Cafecito and Registration at 9:00 A. M. and with the retreat business starting 9:30 A. M.) at the Pitzer College Broad Center, Room 208 (1050 N. Mills Ave. in Claremont.  Morning refreshments and a noon lunch will be available for participants.  As we have done in the past, the members will summarize what was accomplished in the year 2016 and together we will develop priorities/plans and a calendar for 2017.  We are looking forward to having your participation at this most important meeting.  In another message this week, we will send you a copy of the agenda.

If you have not paid your membership for this year, applications will be available at the meeting (the membership dues for one year are $25.00 for individuals and $10.00 for students, retirees, and low income individuals).  You are welcome to invite other prospective members but, in order to vote, they will have to become members.

Request to Become a Member and Help With Scholarship

 Take a moment of your time to support our organization by becoming a member.  Attached you will find a membership application.  Please fill it out and mail it back to us.  The membership dues for one year are $25.00 for individuals and $10.00 for students, retirees, and low income individuals.  Our organization is non-profit and our only means of sustainability is your membership and our yearly Fundraiser Breakfast.  Now we are asking for your support by becoming a member.  As you know, we have bi-monthly membership meetings, a newsletter that goes out to all the members, and consistent work by the community development, immigrant rights, and organizational committees.  Please become a member and participate in our yearly planning retreat that will take place on Saturday, February 11 from 9 – 3 at the Pitzer College Broad Center Room 208 (1050 N. Mills Ave.) in Claremont.  

 

CESAR CHAVEZ FUNDRAISING BREAKFAST

On March 24, 2017, will be our 13th annual Cesar Chavez Fundraising Breakfast.  Please mark your calendar.  The event will be held at the Sheraton Fairplex Conference Center from 8-10 a.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m.

2017 SOCIAL JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Applications for 2017 LRT Social Justice Scholarship

The Latino(a) Roundtable is now accepting applications for their 2017 Social Justice Scholarship. Please help us in spreading the word and identifying activists who can benefit from financial support. We want to recognize and encourage students contributions to their community and working for social justice.

Eligibility:

1. For any high school seniors or college students who will be pursuing an undergraduate degree during the 2017-18 school year

2. Be a resident of San Gabriel or Pomona Valley

3. Be involved in activism/ working towards social justice

How to Apply:

1. 2 page personal essay around your involvement in social justice

2. 2 letters of recommendations
