“The Oxford Handbook of Sociology for Social Justice, “

A nice gift just arrived in the mail — the book, “The Oxford Handbook of Sociology for Social Justice, “ that includes one of my articles, “Participatory Research, Popular Education, and Action for Social Change.”

Thanks to the editor Corey Dolgon for his tenacity and tireless effort in putting together this anthology that “calls on sociologists to be first and foremost activists who apply sociological skills and imaginations to the work of organizing, mobilizing, educating, and envisioning radical social change.” As part of this theme, my article presents examples, from my own development, of how the use of participatory action and popular education models have been used as part of a vision of transforming unjust power relations while creating new models that involve the participants in research and action to create radical systemic change.
