Supporting MALDEF GALA

Supporting MALDEF GALA – its many court battles defending voting rights, redistricting, and immigrant protections – the honoring of Silvia Méndez, Martín Estrada, and Walter Ulloa- and the remarks of MALDEF President Thomas A. Sáenz in calling for courage in bringing to center stage the reality of the rapid growth of the Latino population—accounting for more than half of total U.S. population growth— and overcoming how it is unjustly treated as an existential threat by entrenched political forces. Thank you MALDEF for even filing a federal lawsuit against the City of Greeley, Colorado (where Rose and I lived and organized in for decades) challenging the newly drawn City Council redistricting map, arguing that the map unconstitutionally dilutes the voting strength and political representation of Greeley’s Latino residents.
