PEOC Invitation to Wednesday march in honor of Fallen Worker Leader George Parker

 PEOC to Hold Candlelight Vigil in Honor of Fallen Worker Struck and Killed by a Hit-and-Run in Pomona PEOC to honor worker leader George Parker who was killed in a hit-and-run accident on January 4. Parker was a longtime community member and active worker leader with PEOC.
 
Pomona, CA — On Wednesday, April 14, 2021, the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center (PEOC) will host a candlelight vigil and procession to commemorate George Parker III’s life. Attendees will “finish the walk” from the accident site to PEOC, as George is believed to have been on his way to the worker center the morning of his death. George Parker was killed in a tragic accident on Monday, January 4, 2021 in Pomona at the corner of Mission Boulevard and Reservoir Street. Despite lifesaving measures performed by first responders, George succumbed to his injuries. The accident remains under open investigation as a hit-and-run. The driver has yet to be apprehended. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-620-2085. Enclosed is PPD’s flyer requesting information. 
 
WHAT: Community vigil to commemorate George Parker III’s life, followed by a procession from the accident site to PEOC.

You are welcome to bring flowers and photos of loved ones who have passed away to be part of the altar. Tamales, pan de muerto, champurrado will be offered to participants.

Pomona Day Labor Center Fundraiser on July 23


On behalf of the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center (PEOC), we would like to invite you to sponsor our 4th Annual PEOC Fundraiser on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016 from 5:00—9:00 pm. The event will be held at Ebell Hall in Pomona. There, you will have the opportunity to hear first-hand about the work of the PEOC, our day laborers and women workers and the community leaders who have supported our efforts.

Donate to funeral expenses of Don Luis Gonzalez

Community member and day laborer Don Luis Gonzalez passed away on January 20th, 2015. He was a kind, generous, and humble worker who was loved dearly by his family, friends, and community. He was a longtime member of the Pomona day labor center and recently appeared on the front page of La Opinion newspaper–see below

Students and day laborers held a memorial in his honor this last week at the day labor center as part of remembering his life. We are asking you all to help honor him by helping us raise funds to support his family with the funeral and other costs.

Don Luis fue miembro del centro jornalero por varios años y recientemente fue entrevistado para un segmento en La Opinión– aquí

Estudiantes y jornaleros tuvieron un homenaje conmemorativo la semana pasada para recordar su vida. Les pedimos que nos ayuden a recaudar fondos para apoyar la familia de Don Luis con los gastos del funeral.
