1000 High school students in #RanchoCucamonga walked out of class Tuesday to protest ICE and advocate for justice for families of those impacted by the mass deportations.
Students from Etiwanda High School walked out at 1:15 p.m. and were joined by their peers from Rancho Cucamonga and Alta Loma high schools, who also walked off campus.
The students, many carrying handmade signs, walked together to Protest Corner at Foothill and Day Creek boulevards, where they staged a peaceful student-led demonstration that lasted throughout the afternoon.
One student leader told Inland Wire that approximately 1,000 students participated in the event to call attention to injustice: “We won’t stand for injustice and will continue to speak out for the people and those who are silenced.”
Thousands of students from high schools and colleges throughout the nation also participated in walkouts on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, anti-immigration enforcement activists are calling for a nationwide shutdown on Friday, January 30, urging people to stay home from work and school and avoid shopping to protest the actions of federal immigration agents in major U.S. cities, according to nationalshutdown.org.
