POMONA — A group of day laborers urged Pomona City Council members on Monday night to continue providing funding for the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center.

The center, also known as the Pomona Day Labor Center, has been open for about 15 years with financial support from the city.

In recent years, the center received financial assistance through the city’s now defunct redevelopment agency.    Continue reading →

No better way to celebrate Cesar Chavez Day — than with former students, friends — and a coalition from diverse communities — to let the Pomona college administration know that what they have done will not easily be forgotten – and that we will not stop until our immigrant brothers and sisters are rehired – until there is a union election without fear and intimidation.

(Pomona, CA) – Local leaders and community groups in Pomona will honor civil rights leader Cesar Chavez with their 10th  Annual Community Pilgrimage, commemorating Chavez’s struggle to illuminate issues of injustice, inequality and community self-empowerment. Celebrating his legacy, participants will promote his teachings of nonviolence towards the fulfillment of his unique vision and powerful contributions to our society.

Those that participate in the pilgrimage will be encouraged to stay and attend the City Council Meeting that we may support the Day Laborer Center and its efforts to continue their service to the community. Members and students of different groups will address the City Council in support of the Day Laborer Center.
