Over the years, Dolores in support of our local organizing efforts in the Pomona Valley region in support of workers, students, unions, and community. For many of the thirty years that I took students to La Paz and Delano to carry out engagement projects, Dolores would join us in sharing her lessons, marching with us in Bakersfield, and supporting our student teatro presentations.
She was so much a part of us that we thought she would live beyond us. Just saw her not too long ago – and she was out there getting the vote out – a testament to how we can live our lives. All we can do now – is to make sure that her character continues to live among all of us who knew her, respected her, and cared for her. She was always among us – there – the salt of the earth – in the very roots of our movements- never losing touch with the farmworkers, students, workers, familias, and all communities. Every time I saw her- she would treat us like familia. I cherished that part of her- that she was always one of us – at the roots / always there for us! She would want us to continue to live the way she did – until our last moments. I know that her heart up there will fill with joy if we get out the vote and send a message to Trompudo in the midterm.
