You are invited to the next membership meeting of the Latino and Latina Roundtable membership set for Saturday, August 18 beginning at 1 PM at our offices (the Solidarity Center) at the Village (1444 E. Holt Ave. in Pomona — Entrance #3 – Classroom 6).  The membership meeting, in addition to community development and immigrant rights committee reports, will introduce the LRT’s new director, the proposed transition plan, a summary of the TSP caravan, proposed ballot initiative and candidate’s forums, Dia de Los Muertos event plans, November board officer elections, and upcoming College for All Coalition anchor meeting in Pomona.

LRT to March in support of Immigrant children as part of Pomona Poor People March and Rally this Sat. June 23

The Latino and Latina Roundtable invites our members and friends to
be part of a contingent in the Poor People’s Campaign March and  Rally
this Saturday, June 23 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Civic Center of
Pomona (Mission and Garey) alongside the NAACP and other organizations.
As part of the theme “Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice,”  The
Latino and Latina Roundtable members will be particularly marching in
support of human rights for the immigrant children who have been
separated from their families and who, this administration has vowed
to continue to detain although public pressure has forced a change in
policy to somehow “keep families together” as part of still
implementing a “zero tolerance” policy.    LRT members will be making
posters in support of these children and families (to carry in the march)
this Friday, June 22 at the Solidarity Center (at the Village (1444
E. Holt Ave. in Pomona — Entrance #3 – Classroom 6)
from 12 noon until 2 PM if you are interested in
helping.  ”  The event includes booths, free food and drinks, – —
 a March around 4 blocks — and short speeches focusing
on important issues being faced by our diverse communities.

Your Invitation to Support Day Laborers and Worker Community: Fernando Pedraza Memorial SATURDAY MAY 5th 10am-12pm

Please  join us in celebrating the life of Jose Fernando Pedraza and strength of the day labor community this Saturday, May 5th from 10 am – 12pm at the corner of Arrow and Grove in Rancho Cucamonga.  The Fernando Pedraza Community Coalition is a loose coalition of day laborers, community members, organizers, and students from the Claremont Colleges. The goal of FPCC is to create and maintain a relationship between each group and to create a supportive network for the workers. This coalition aims to continue Fernando Pedraza’s struggle, a day laborer, organizer and leader who strove to make the corner (Arrow and Grove in Rancho Cucamonga) a safe and positive place for workers. Big victory past midnight as San Dimas city council voted 3-2 against a resolution presented by Councilmember Ryan Vienna to oppose SB-54. A testament to the work of a community-based coalition (that included the Latino and Latina Roundtable, LCLAA, IYC, NAACP, and others) that organized and prepared speakers, wrote an alternative resolution, carried out legal research, mobilized a core of San Dimas residents, gathered petitions, held meetings with the mayor, gathered support from dozens of organizations, and handled the verbal attacks of dozens of right wing militants with discipline and unity.

COMMUNITY COALITION UNITES AGAINST SAN DIMAS CITY COUNCIL

TAKING ACTION AGAINST SB-54 ON APRIL 24, 2018

On April 24, 2018 at 7:00 pm the San Dimas City Council has an agenda item to discuss taking action to support the federal government lawsuit against California. You are invited to a rally with speakers in front of City Council Chambers at 6:00 PM and to be part of the many who will support SB-54 inside city hall at 7 PM.

WHERE:  245 EAST BONITA AVE, SAN DIMAS, CA 91773

WHO:  San Dimas United for Diversity and Inclusion (SDUDI) is a broad coalition of residents, business persons, churches, labor unions, students, teachers , civil rights organizations and attorneys.  This coalition has united to promote and protect the California Values Act, SB-54 and other California legislation which recognizes the value of immigrants to making California great.  They celebrate diversity and inclusion and oppose hate, prejudice and divisiveness.

WHY:  Councilman Ryan Vienna, also a Lieutenant in the L.A. Sheriff’s Department, proposed that the City Council support an amicus curiae (friend of the court) brief by the Federation for American Immigration Reform and its legal arm which supports the Federal government lawsuit against California’s SB-54, AB-103 and AB-450.  If the City Council were to take any action against SB-54 it would in effect be making a major public policy statement that it is anti-immigrant, non inclusive and not welcoming to all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or immigration status.  It would also be a violation of the 14th Amendment in that all persons are entitled to equal protection of the law. Also, it would be endorsing the Trump and ICE policies of over aggressive enforcement which breaks up families and puts more of a burden on the states such as children and family services.  The City is violating its own long standing policy of abstaining from federal and state conflicts. The City’s first obligation is to follow state law, especially those based on protecting public safety such as SB-54. Councilman Vienna is taking a position against his own department and against state law.

This is your invitation to the Latino and Latina Roundtable membership meeting this Saturday, April 21 beginning at 1 PM at our new offices (the Solidarity Center) at the Village (1444 E. Holt Ave. in Pomona — Entrance #3 – Classroom 6).  We ask that you arrive on time because we have a lot to discuss.  Among some of the items: a summary of the Cesar Chavez breakfast and the Pilgrimage and Festival; the upcoming city council meeting in San Dimas regarding SB-54; update on the College for all Coalition pipeline to college efforts; a proposal to head up an immigrant rights forum as part of the Poor People’s campaign, status of rent control petition in Pomona, and our part in upcoming efforts regarding Beautification day at Cesar Chavez Park, May 1,  annual Fernando Pedraza Memorial, and Salinas Farmworker Center opening celebration.
