CDA Cares Free Dental Clinic at FAIRPLEX in Pomona
The California Dental Association Foundation is bringing CDA Cares to Pomona on November 21, 22, 2014. CDA Cares is a two-day dental clinic equipped with 100 dental treatment chairs where volunteer dentists, working alongside community volunteers, provide dental services valued at $1.5 million. The main goal is to relieve pain and eliminate infection for those who experience barriers to care. The program provides cleanings, fillings, extractions, complete and partial dentures (stayplates), oral health education, and assistance in finding a dental home to more than 2,000 people at each clinic. The event also raises awareness with the public and policymakers about the need for a state dental director and infrastructure to reinstate an adequately funded safety net and develop policies to improve the oral health of Californians.
Here is a link to the video created after our first event in 2012 to give you a better sense of the event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpy-5BGEfR8 It’s about 7 minutes long. Article: Tuesday’s Election favored big business but some progressive victories
There was some light in the recent elections — as analyzed by my professor friend, Peter Dreier from Occidental College, in this article that I received yesterday (the link is below):
“Tuesday’s Republican wave of election victories did not reflect public opinion or the public mood. Instead it was the result of the GOP’s triumph in changing the rules of democracy to favor big business and conservative interest groups, including the triumphs of corporate money and voter suppression
…. progressives won some impressive but little-publicized victories on important issues — including minimum wage hikes — especially in red and purple states, suggesting that voters are not as conservative as the pundits are pontificating.”
Op-Ed in L. A. Times: Poll Support for Firing Every Incumbent in Congress
Most Interesting from the polls: ” A record high number, 68%, said they’d like to fire every incumbent in Congress, regardless of party.”
From an editorial in the Los Angeles Times Today:
“It was clear that many of Tuesday’s voters were unhappy with Obama. In a national exit poll, 65% said they thought the country was “on the wrong track” — an even higher percentage than gave that answer in the last Republican wave election of 2010.
…
A solid majority, 54%, said they disapproved of President Obama’s job performance. And many — although not a majority — said they intended their vote to express opposition to Obama’s policies.
But here’s a complicating factor: Most voters didn’t approve of the GOP leadership, either. A Pew Research Center poll last month found that likely voters disliked the Republican Party even more than they disliked the Democrats. A record high number, 68%, said they’d like to fire every incumbent in Congress, regardless of party.”
