Jornaleros No Están Solos
Pablo Alvarado, líder de la Red Nacional de Jornaleros (NDLON) le dijo a Carlos y a todos los jornaleros, que no están solos, y que tienen a todo el pueblo de su lado.
“No es un crimen buscar trabajo o ser jornalero, es una honra ser jornalero, porque el jornalero con la frente en alto ofrece su trabajo y lo hace con mucho orgullo, desafiando la lluvia, el sol, los guardias de seguridad y a los malos empleadores”.

Agentes de ICE en Pomona
ALERTA COMUNITARIA – POMONA, CA
Este martes 22 de abril a las 9:00 am, agentes de ICE realizaron un operativo en el estacionamiento de Home Depot en Pomona, deteniendo y procesando a más de 30 trabajadores jornaleros migrantes.
Varios vehículos sin marcas oficiales llegaron al Home Depot en Pomona, ubicado en el 2707 S Towne Ave.
Entraron por dos lados:
Seis vehículos no identificados por Towne Ave
Y dos camionetas de la Patrulla Fronteriza por la entrada de Market y Garey.
Después de detener a varios, llegaron dos vans más.
Y se llevaron entre 15 y 20 trabajadores.
Sin juicio. Sin justificación. Sin ordenes de detención.
¡Esto no es solo un ataque contra jornaleros, es un ataque contra toda nuestra comunidad migrante.
Si te encuentras en una situación parecida, recuerda esto:
1. No estás obligado a hablar con ICE o la Patrulla Fronteriza.
Puedes decir: “No deseo responder preguntas” y “Quiero hablar con un abogado”.
2. No abras la puerta sin una orden firmada por un juez.
Pídela por debajo de la puerta o que la muestren por la ventana.
3. Graba lo que puedas. Si es seguro hacerlo, documenta nombres, vehículos, placas, y el trato que dan a las personas.
4. Llama de inmediato a una organización local.
En Pomona, el Centro de jornaleros Pomona Economic Opportunity Center fue el primero en llegar para apoyar a los trabajadores jornaleros y documentar lo ocurrido.
PEOC estará llevando acabo una conferencia de prensa para informar a la comunidad y denunciar esta redada.

Supporting State Senator María Elena Durazo for L A County Supervisor District 1 at Pomona Meet and Greet – organized by host committee made up of Jorge Marquez, Nora Garcia and Mark Ramos – with packed attendance of community leaders from Pomona, Eastern San Gabriel Valley, and area cities. A fundraiser is being organized for Sunday, July 13 at UFCW 1428. She’s a graduate of St. Mary’s College, where she was part of the Chicano Movement. She began organizing for the textile workers union as she worked toward a law degree at People’s College of Law. She was the executive vice president of UNITE-HERE International and the first woman Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.
ICE Out of Pomona
Supporting emergency press conference and rally protesting ICE raid at Pomona Home Depot that resulted in the detaining of over a dozen day laborers. As one worker emphasized “”We are here. We are human beings. We’re only here to support ourselves and maintain our families.”
“We know that these types of operations intend to intimidate people who are looking for an honest day’s work, not to come to the day labor corners,” said Pablo Alvarado with the National Day Labor Organizing Network.
“If you are detained, you can exercise your rights,” said Jessica Batnsal, an attorney with the National Day Labor Organizing Network. “You can refuse to answer questions, and you can ask to speak to an attorney.”
The organizers urged family members of anyone detained to call 909-361-4588.
The community groups that came together in a rapid response included the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center, the National Day Labor Organizing Network, the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, the Latino and Latina Roundtable, ICE Out of Pomona, and other community-based supporters.
Invite to day before march, April 18 at 2:30 pm, for get-together at Cesar Chavez Park in Pomona to eat, make flags
You are invited to a get-together the day before, Friday, April 18 (from 2:30 – 5 PM) at Cesar Chavez Park (2720 Barjud Ave.) in Pomona to make flags, posters, and banners for the Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta March the next day. At this get-together, we will remember the lives of Pablo “Xhompo” Lopez and Blanca Mariscal who, until they passed to the spirit world, gave of their time to organize the annual march and celebration. Like we will do, they were there on the Friday before the march – making flags and posters – with Pablo helping to lead chants the next day and Blanca leading the making of food the next day with parents (with all proceeds going for scholarships). There are two trees with rocks next to them – remembering their lives. The LRT will provide pizzas, wings, garlic bread, and water. Please bring a snack, dessert or fruit to share. You are welcome to invite others.

Join us For Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Pilgrimage March this Saturday, April 19 in Pomona
You are invited to the Cesar Chavez & Dolores Huerta Pilgrimage on Saturday, April 19 beginning at 9:30 am at the Pomona Valley Pride center (386 S Thomas St.) and ending at Tony Cerda Park (450 W. Grand Ave.). The march and celebration are organized by local community-based organizations of the Pomona Valley region with the support of the Latino and Latina Roundtable. In addition to an annual purpose of building unity and to use our lives in finding solutions to community problems, this year’s theme is “Defending Human Rights and Immigrant Rights in Our Communities.” All proceeds and donations from the Pilgrimage march and fiesta are used as scholarships for students and recent graduates who carry on the vision of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta through advocacy and community engagement. To date, every one of the scholarship recipients has graduated from a 4-year university.
This year, the Pilgrimage march begins at Pomona Pride Center (386 S Thomas St) at a 200-year-old tree to honor the elders in our community; proceeds through Pomona neighborhoods; to Tony Cerda Park (450 W. Grand Ave.) where a “young tree” will be planted to honor the unity of elder and young generations in constructing a more equitable society. The march and ceremony will be led by the indigenous group Danza Grupo Macelloyo, Los Jornaleros del Norte, Union de Ranchos, and the scholarship recipients. The speakers will include Madeline Rios, Angela Sanbrano, Matt Sedillo, Joshua Swodeck, Tony Cerda, Karen May, Poet Laureate Natalie Sierra, Claudia Batista Perales, Jesse Trujillo, Yasmin Cardona, and Jaime Guitierrez, along with Mayor Tim Sandoval, Frank Guzman, and Jose Calderon. Music will be provided by the nationally known Los Jornaleros del Norte, as well as the Cantaurtores, and the dA Center Mariachis. Inter-generational folklorico dances will be presented by Jalisco No Te Rajes and other local groups. Food will be provided by local vendors.
