SB-309, which College for All Coalition has supported, passes with an allocation of $500 million

Thought that I would let you know that SB-309 sponsored by State Senator Connie Leyva, which the College for All Coalition (of which the LRT has been part of), passed through the state legislative budget with an allocation of $500 million to ensure College readiness and assuring that schools advance student completion of A-G requirements.  Thank you to our LRT College for All group that met with legislators on this bill (and others) during advocacy week.  This is a good example of how we can connect our local organizing efforts to training and outreach that results in positive outcomes.

Fired Pomona College dining hall worker Felipa Sanchez to return to work

Fired Pomona College dining hall worker Felipa Sanchez to return to work almost 10 years after college fired her during Union drive!

Welcome Back Felipa Sanchez!

Almost 20 years ago, in the middle of a Union organizing drive in the Pomona College dining halls, Pomona College trustees and administrators decided to check Felipa’s papers and fire her along with 16 of her co-workers.

A year later, despite the mass firing, Felipa’s co-workers won the Union. One of their first demands was the right to return to work for Felipa and all the fired dining hall workers, once their immigration status was regularized.

On Thursday, July 1, Felipa Sanchez will finally return to her job as Lead Cook with her full seniority!  Come congratulate Felipa and help us celebrate her return!

 When:        Thursday, July 1

When:        9am

Where:       The fountain in front of Frank Dining Hall.
