Supporting State Senator Maria Elena Durazo
Supporting State Senator María Elena Durazo for L A County Supervisor District 1 at Pomona Meet and Greet – organized by host committee made up of Jorge Marquez, Nora Garcia and Mark Ramos – with packed attendance of community leaders from Pomona, Eastern San Gabriel Valley, and area cities. A fundraiser is being organized for Sunday, July 13 at UFCW 1428. She’s a graduate of St. Mary’s College, where she was part of the Chicano Movement. She began organizing for the textile workers union as she worked toward a law degree at People’s College of Law. She was the executive vice president of UNITE-HERE International and the first woman Secretary-Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.

The day begins with a march from Pomona Valley Pride to Tony Cerda Park, where we walk in solidarity for human rights and immigrant rights in our communities. The march concludes with a celebration in which we recognize our Pilgrimage Scholarship recipients who led the march. Speakers, entertainment, and food vendors.

At our meeting, on Friday, in addition to the reports from the various committees, we will focus on plans for the outreach to schools, churches, organizations, social media, and media in general. We will go over ensuring all aspects of logistics, security, the scholarships, speakers, entertainment, vendors, t-shirts, and fundraising. At the same time, we will discuss plans for getting together the night before, on April 17 – beginning at 2:30 PM – to make posters, flags, and banners.
