Supporting Pomona Valley Pride Center

Supporting Pomona Valley Pride Center (outside and later inside) at Pomona Unified School board meeting in support of equity and inclusion and in support of our queer, trans, and immigrant communities – a unity developed with the Latino and Latina Roundtable and a coalition of groups who also came together in a pilgrimage march in April (from the Pride Center to Tony Cerda Park) that united around stopping attacks on our vulnerable and intersectional communities and advancing human rights for all. Adelante!

Raising Funds For Library Programs

Great turn-out for Pomona Library Foundation Mayor’s gala raising funds for library programs with Richard Montoya from Culture Clash as emcee, awardee recipients Estela Ballon and Paul Knopf; Pomona Poet Laureate Natalie Sierra; and LRT board members Lidia Manzanares (President) and Mike Suarez and Lina Mira (Executive Director) in support of the fundraiser.

At The Stop Raids Rally

With close friends today at Free David Huerta and Stop Raids Rally in L A: Ana Maria Alvarez (founding artistic director of renowned dance group Contra Tiempo; Christian Lopez (one of the leaders in organizing Pomona College dining hall workers and now an organizer with UNITE-HERE); David Pihl (one of my former Pitzer students who helped organize workers there, part of the annual spring break with the UFW, and now with the Directors Guild); Arnulfo de la Cruz (now President of SEIU Local 2015 who is carrying on the legacy of his father Roberto de la Cruz as an exemplary union leader); Jerry Ryan (who led the UFW grape boycott in Colorado and past President in local Letter Carriers Union)
