UPLM - DREAMACT (A)

Film and Speakers on “Fighting For Our Lives”

This Friday, September 18th (beginning with an introduction and pot-luck) at 6 PM at Bellas Artes Gallery (244 S Garey Ave, Pomona, California 91766), United Pomona Valley M.E.Ch.A. The Latino/a Roundtable of the San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Valley and the community will be showing an Oscar nominated portrayal of the UFW’s 1973 strike where grape workers making history by walking off the job from Coachella to Fresno to fight for a UFW contract. A moving testimony to the bravery of the farm workers in their non-violent struggle against police brutality on the picket lines. Our group Unity in the Community seeks to bring dialogue about historic issues that are still affecting us today. We will be watching this film and will have presenters who were part of the UFW and grape boycott – leaders Jerry Ryan and Roberto de la Cruz – discussing the film afterwards. Everyone is welcome.

This will be a potluck style event so bring something delicious to share, and don’t forget to bring your friends and family!

Fiestas Patrias at PEOC THIS TUESDAY

INVITATION FROM THE POMONA DAY LABOR CENTER (PEOC) TO CELEBRATE THE INDEPENDENCE OF MEXICAN AND CENTRAL AMERICAN COMMUNITIES  — THIS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH AT 10 A. M. AT THE PEOC (1682 WEST MISSION BLVD. IN POMONA)

Facebook Event Page

Thank you so much! Will see you tomorrow!

“En el Centro Jornalero tenemos la costumbre de festejar la independencia de México, al igual que la de Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, y Honduras, con una rica comida y convivio y nuestras amistades de la comunidad y de las universidades.

También aprovechamos para aprender nuestra historia y vincular las luchas históricas con las actuales. Se le hace la cordial invitación a cada uno y una de ustedes!

#upcomingevents #markyourcalendars every year we celebrate#fiestaspatrias at the #PEOC #daylabor center, with food, music, and community. Since #Mexico#Guatemala#ElSalvador#Nicaragua,#CostaRica, and #Honduras all share the same #independenceday, it is a good opportunity to build bridges between the #Mexican and#CentralAmerican communities, as well as the #Chicanx and u.s.-born communities. And since #independence was (and is) a protracted#struggle, it gives us a chance to root ourselves in our history and connect to our current struggles. So please swing by beginning at 10:am on Tuesday #September15 and join us!”
