Big Victory: Support Irene Ramirez Returning to Pomona College!

Irene Ramirez returned to work today to her position as a Cook at Pomona College!  We are planning a brief and informal welcome back for Irene this Wednesday, October 14th at 10:00AM outside of Frary Dining Hall at the fountain.  Irene will be able to take her 10-minute break around that time and come out for just a couple of minutes, so if you can join us, please be there promptly at 10:00 so as not to miss her!  Hope to see you there.  Again, please feel free to forward this to any allies who might want to join us on Wednesday.

We have exciting news!  The second of the 17 Pomona workers who were fired in December of 2011 will be returning to work at the College tomorrow!  You may remember when dining hall workers won their first union contract in 2013, they insisted on including language guaranteeing that their fired co-workers be reinstated as soon as they were able to present valid work authorization documents.  Christian Torres returned to work at Pomona in 2013 after obtaining work authorization through President Obama’s first executive order around DACA.  Now Irene Ramirez, a prep cook at Pomona for 14 years prior to her termination, will be returning to her job with her full seniority intact!  The Pomona worker committee is planning a small welcome-back gathering with Irene for later this week and would like to invite you all to join us.  I will forward you details as soon as the committee has chosen the date and time together with Irene.  In the meantime, if you frequent the Frary Dining Hall at Pomona please welcome Irene back to work!  Please feel free to forward this to any allies with whom you would like to share this wonderful news.
