Room Change for LRT Meeting On Sat., Aug. 9th

ROOM CHANGE FOR MEETING:  AVERY 224 AT PITZER COLLEGE (See attached Map)

This is your invitation to the membership meeting of the Latino and Latina Roundtable this Saturday, August 9th from 1 – 3 PM at the Avery 224 at Pitzer College (1050 N. Mills Ave. in Claremont).  In addition to summarizing our recent social and involvement in immigrant rights issues supporting the Central American children and families, the meeting will include an update on economic development initiatives in Pomona (including plans for an educational forum around upcoming city elections), plans for another driver’s license educational forum, and ongoing phone campaigns to defend DACA and advance positive immigration legalization proposals.

The meeting will also advance the organizational development committee’s plans for a “Conversation and Get-Together With LRT Members” set for this Sunday, Aug. 10 at the house of Mario and Frances 1939 S. Tonopah Ave. in West Covina, CA 91790 (see the announcement below).

CALL CONGRESS – VOTE NO ON GOP BILL

Quick Update:

The Senate is trying to maintain order and pass a bill that will help the refugee children tonight. Despite attempts by Sen. Jeff Sessions (AL) and the likes to deter, drag out the process by adding on amendments that would rollback policies and hurt immigrant families, Dreamers, the Senate is keeping a CLEAN bill for a vote tonight, which would direct funding to help the children fleeing violence to have the due process protections and rights to legal representation. After this vote in the next 35 min, the Senate will adjourn for August recess, returning Sept 8. Continue reading

So this is film by Gael Garcia Bernal is being screened next Tuesday August 5th at the Laemmle’s in Claremont.

It’s about Central American migrants crossings and the deaths at the US/Mexico border. Just yesterday, I was in that very church in this scene, placing a candle to the Virgin of Guadalupe thinking of all the migrants crossing or about to cross. Shit’s real down there. Continue reading
